PETERSON’S STAMPEDE NORTHWEST MOPAR & GOLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIPS
Positively beautiful weather greeted an outstanding field of racers and show
participants at the 24th edition of the Peterson Stampede Northwest Mopar & Gold
Cup Championships.
Traditionally held on the second week of June, the Mopar day featured quite a
number of racing categories and an assortment of judged show classes.
Congratulations to all the award winners.
The NHRA King of the Track runoff was staged in conjunction with this key Gold
Cup point’s event. Putting together an outstanding number of elimination runs
(eight in total), Joseph Karnes successfully swept the NHRA Summit Wally trophy,
along with a pair of NHRA national event full event vouchers by upending Pro
winner Randy Williamson in the runoff. Karnes also collected the overall title
in the Sportsman class.
Congratulations are also in order for both Troy Pecht (Super Pro winner) and
Ashton Davis (Sled/Bike champ). The two reached the final four in King of the
Track competition.
In the show `n shine, Best of Show-Mopar was awarded to Doug Wikfors with his
impeccable `63 Plymouth Fury RT. Other special Mopar award winners included:
Judy Radford (Quickest-Slicks), Jay Clark (Quickest-Street Tires), Ken Casteel,
Pat Liskey, Scott Zimmerman, Lynn Johnston, Frank Wilson, Kevin Petty, Tim
Jaszkowiak, Ed May, Vernon Pecht and Rocky Fullterton.
Also, congratulations goes out to Melissa Jarboe who races a `73 Vega in
Firebird’s Pro division. She stopped Mark Kidd, who had put together a string of
four consecutive (and 24 round wins) victories in Pro. The race was a nail
biter, too. Jarboe hit a .050 and ran 10.265 on a 10.27 dial against a .030,
9.524 on a 9.53, in a race decided by .001. Congratulations to Melissa for her
amazing win (and a tip of the hat to Kidd for putting together quite a string of
wins this season).
We’d like to say thanks to Gary Himes and the staff photographers for giving us
an opportunity to showcase some of the cars attending this year’s event. We hand
picked a few that grabbed our attention – hope you enjoy the assortment we
selected from this year’s Mopar show `n go (and full Boise Muffler Gold Cup
point’s event).
