Two completely different weather days helped open the 40th Year of Drag Racing at Firebird Raceway. Saturday featured temperatures in the low 60's under heavy cloud filled skies, while Sunday endured overnight showers, followed by blue skies during the afternoon and strong head winds throughout the day. All together, a big field of entries participated in the Stinker Stores Season Opener featuring a prize pool of nearly $10,000. Saturday offered quarter-mile competition, while winds shortened the distance on Sunday to the eighth-mile. Thanks to everyone who supported the one and only weekend of Gold Cup racing in the month of April. The next stop for points (with premium pts. on the line in SP and PRO) in the Boise Muffler & Spangler Bros. Auto Body Series will be in conjunction with the NAPA Ignitor-Lucas Oil Drag Race Series on the second weekend of May. Full points will resume in conjunction with the Bronco Motors Hot Truck Nationals on Sunday, May 20th. Hope you enjoy an assortment of images taken at the Opener.
