Qualafab Street Machine Shootout & Gold Cup Race

The 20th edition of the Qualafab Street Machine Shootout featured some outstanding performances and racing during the final Saturday night of June. A great field of cars and bikes not only battled in the Quick 8 - Street categories, but also a full-slate of Gold Cup point's action, too. Hats off to both Kevin & Jeff Young for helping to recruit the biggest turnout of eastern Idaho cars in the event's two decade existance. No body will ever doubt the fact they definitely have some bad hot rods in and around the Idaho Falls region. At the same time we want to thank Tim Ketlinski for throwing his full support behind the event. This year's Street winners all received special Matrix jackets thanks to Qualafab and Carl's Cycle Sales, who sponsored the Quick 8-Street Bike program and jacket. All together, there were 15, yes 15 (!) different winners at the event. Notable amongst them all, Mike McNamara collected his third straight 12.50 index title in as many years. The time might have come for all of us to place a bounty (or challenge out to all racers) on Mike to see if anyone can unseat his domination at the next event. Thanks again to everyone for helping to make the Street Machine Shootout & Gold Cup race a fixture on the Firebird calendar of events each season.

Defending Super Pro track champ John Shaffer won his first event of the season, stopping a red-lighting (by just -.001) Chris Jaggers in the final.

Winning the inaugural Carl's Cycle Sales Quick 8-Street Bike race was Robert Neidigh with his `99 Suzuki. Without any power enhancers, he set low e.t. at a booming 9.28!

Troy Lind singled in the Unlimited Street final belting out a fine 9.002-150.25 (just barely missing the 8-second zone). Opponent Jeff Young developed an oil leak following his burnout ending his title aspirations.

Reigning Firebird track champ Larry Hale defeated Jeffrey Langan for the Pro title. With the win, Hale moved into first place in the current point's standings.

Earning his third Sportsman win of the season, Jeff Bell stopped Gary Kruger (far side) in the final.

Just imagine if Jim Cox would have started out the season like everyone else in Snow/Bike back in April (how many points he'd have right now). Cox has now raced in three events, winning the past two in a row. Nice job!

John Lindsey beat defending 10.50 index champ Larry Lancaster in a double breakout dandy. Lindsey ran 10.49 against at further under 10.45 by the `35 Ford coupe (far side).

James Jolley scored the 11.50 index category with his `69 Camaro. Jolley ran 11.59 in the final to defeat Walt Templeton's Mustang, which broke out at 11.44.

Zeljko Kuzeta tried his best to unseat the Comet of Mike McNamara in the 12.50-index final, but a 12.54 stopped a too quick 12.32 by the Civic (far side).

Former Super Cop Speedfest champion Ron Kirtley successfully conquered the four-car field this year, too. In the final, Kirtley ran 9.52-121.04 to upend Donald Powell from the St. Anthony Police Dept.

Alyson Clark (far side) won her first Jr. Lightning race by stopping former track champion Camille Shaffer. Clark won with a 9.12 (9.04 dial)-64.35.

Nailing a 11.18 on a 11.15 dial, Andrew Clark (near lane) narrowly defeated a too quick 11.53 (11.58 dial)-55.02 by Wes Morris in Jr. Thunder.

Low e.t. of the Street Machine event went to the wicked fast Camaro of Jeff Young who qualified on the pole at 8.67!

A first at Firebird, this `05 Ford GT-40 of Larry Aikins ripped off a 12.60-119.61 blazing the hides the first couple hundred feet. Now this dude makes some serious power.

The adorable Belle attended the Firebird one-night event with her grandmother Karen Law (who operates the Firebird Sport Shop and a variety of other positions).
