Two Idaho Racers Score Big Gambler Wins
Friday Night!
The Summit E.T. Finals featured a beautiful sun-filled day for quite a
variety of racers from nineteen NHRA member tracks. On what is
anticipated to be the warmest day of the weekend, temperatures climbed
into the lower 90’s during the late afternoon.
Three big bonus races were staged in Box Gambler, No Box Gambler and
Sled/Bike Gambler. Coined the New Crew Gambler race, a record cash
payout of nearly $13,000 made racing hot `n heavy from 3:30 pm until
racing came to a close under the stadium lights at a few ticks past 9
pm.
Utah ace Tim Skougard swept the Sled/Bike class when Team Woodburn rider
and current track champion Roger Wolff redlighted by .001. In No Box
Gambler, Team Firebird’s Joe Witherspoon scored the $2,500 winner’s
prize with a win over former Summit champ Cory Thompson, Team Eagle. In
an electric Box Gambler final, Ryan Cook from eastern Idaho
(representing Lost Creek in Montana) drilled a 7.84 on a 7.81 dial to
topple Stefan Kondolay with Team Mission who redlit by a mere .001 of a
second.
Racing resumes on Saturday starting at 8 am, while first round of the
Race of Champions gets underway at 2 pm.
