Update: Saturday of the Summit Northwest Team Finals

WOODBURN WINS TRACK MANAGER’S CUP ON SATURDAY

The Race of Champions on Saturday produced plenty of drama as the day progressed at the next to the last day of the Summit E.T. Finals. As the late rounds drew to a close, both Woodburn and Firebird were separated by a mere 2 round wins. Then, going into the final rounds, Firebird had to win all three titles to pull it all off. In the final go, Woodburn’s Steve Kelly helped solidify their team the Track Manager’s title by winning Pro. The final points came down to the championship to Team Woodburn (35 pts.) and Team Firebird (34 pts.) finishing second.

Firebird did place two racers into the Winner's Circle. In Super Pro, Ed Cutler, Boise, captured the overall Division 6 title by downing Jim Glenn, Camas, Wash. The victory earned him one of 7 berths nation-wide to compete at the NHRA World Finals in Pomona, Calif., this November for the NHRA World Championship of Super Pro.

Winning the NHRA Division 6 High School eliminator, Eagle High's Courtney Alley (Eagle) was the day's big winner, earning her the state's first-ever Northwest Drag Racing title. She defeated Amelia MacKay-Smith, Merritt, BC, who was racing for the Eagle Motorplex in Ashcroft, B.C.

Racing wraps up at 9 am on Sunday. Adults are $15, kids 6-12 are $5 and toddlers 5 & under are free.
