RECORD 245 RACERS COMPETE AT FIRST FIREBIRD CLUB STOP

The Naughty Girls had a dream night at the Fairly Reliable Bob’s Club Challenge Series. The opening stop in the six-race point’s championship attracted a record 245 racers from twenty-three teams.

Not one, but two champions emerged from the big night of racing. Running for the Naughty Girls, Jackie Alley charged to the Bracket #1 winner’s circle with the car her daughter Courtney raced to the NHRA Division 6 High School crown in 2008. The former Firebird track champion posted a 10.51 on a 10.57 dial at 125.76 miles per hour to beat a redlighting James Bennett with PSI Racing.

Joining Alley in victory lane was Rose Show, another front-runner for the Naughty Girls team. Rose put together an 11.64 (11.62 dial)-114.88 with her `78 Volare to end the title hopes of Brad Pattan who ran under his dial by just .006 (11.39-114.56) with his colorful Falcon running for Notorious Racing.

Other individual class champions included: Darron Hoskins (Neighbors Nightmare) in Bkt. #3, Dan Cram (Melba Outlaws) in Bkt. #4, and Jake Rick (Loco Motion) in Bkt. #5.

One incident occurred early in time trials. Melanie Hodge lost control of a 10-second Mustang she was driving for the first-time at the 200’ mark, swapping lanes and clipping the rear of Matt Compton’s Olds Cutlass who was driving his dad Bruce’s Pro bracket ride (Bruce was sitting the race out after recent shoulder surgery). Both drivers emerged ok. The good news, Compton’s car continued racing for his PSI team with damage limited to some body and paintwork after bumping the wall. The Mustang was parked for the night, needing a lot of work to the front half of the car.
