THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS: 38TH ANNUAL PEPSI NIGHTFIRE
NATIONALS
A breezy, but comfortable day of racing helped kick off the 38th edition of
the Pepsi Nightfire Nationals. Temperatures climbed into the lower 80’s on a
party cloudy, partly sunny day of Bracketeer action. The evening ended after
twelve and a half hours of time trials and racing under star-filled skies as
champions were crowned in six different classes.
Two Arizona racers made the big dash for $5,000 in Bracketeer cash. After
coming to Firebird for over a decade now, Eddie Brown finally reached the
Nightfire main event winner’s circle. In a heck of a night-time final, Brown
edged second generation racer Brad Hawk in a “north vs. south” Arizona final
by a .006 margin of victory. Brown will take the earlier lead in the
Meridian Automotive & Machine Bracketeer four-day point’s series.
In Pro, the hometown ace Troy Pecht put his wheelstanding Camaro into
victory lane. Running .01-under, 10.21-129.55, he benefited from a
redlighting Chris Hall from Brigham City, Utah, to collect the $2,000 cash
payout.
All the details are noted below from the opening day of the Nightfire
including the current Top Fire Qualifying lists after 2 (out of 3) sessions
for the go-fast fraternity.
