OLDIES RACERS BRAVE WET WEATHER WEEKEND
The second major event of the season was pummeled with
rain, thunder and lightning, but the 29th Annual Snap On Oldies But Goodies
Drags persevered and came to a conclusion Sunday afternoon.
Saturday’s weather was downright miserable. Rain fell the majority of the
morning followed by a line of showers and explosive thunder boomers during the
late afternoon hours. In between storm systems, racers were able to squeeze in a
trio of time trial runs.
Overnight Saturday, the skies really let loose. All together, better than
six-tenths of an inch of rain fell at the raceway, very near a record rainfall
for the day. Fortunately enough, the weather improved significantly by
mid-morning on Sunday as friendly, sun-filled skies returned to the Oldies
weekend, which was presented by Project Filter.
A big, big attaboy goes out to all the racers and show entrants who braved the
elements, especially those who attended on Saturday. Thanks to all of you who
supported the Oldies weekend. We’re grateful for your support.
Congratulations goes out to Matt Moreira who won the Supercharged Shootout.
Driving the Moreira family campaigned “Villian Racing” supercharged roadster,
Matt set low e.t. and top speed of the meet at 6.58-218.18 mph. Steve Woods was
second quickest at 6.96-200.75 with his AA/Supercharged Corvette from San
Leandro, Calif.
