FATHER AND SON JAGGERS DUO SWEEP NORTHWEST MOPAR/GOLD CUP EVENT

Some days poor weather knocks the wind out of your sails, especially when it’s a day for Drag Racing. An ambitious and loyal following of racers were determined not to allow mother nature to spoil this year’s Peterson’s Stampede Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep Northwest Mopar Championships & Gold Cup races. Sure, some stayed home and chose not to take in this year’s mid-June point’s race, but there were certainly many that were attending even if the projected flash flooding interrupted the twenty-two year old event. Racers came from as far away as Portland, western Wyoming and eastern Idaho for the one day bash.

After seven-tenths of an inch of rain fell leading up to the Sunday event, much more favorable conditions prevailed late morning and throughout the early afternoon.  As always the extra hard working Firebird staff of officials busted their tails off all morning to provide a first cabin surface to race on.

By day’s end, the father and son team of Chris and Michael Jaggers doubled up in both Super Pro and Jr. Thunder. Both ran impressively consistent. The former Super Pro champ ran .031, 8.21 (8.22 dial), .013, 8.22 (8.20), .011, 8.20 (8.21) and a final round .000, 8.22 (8.20). Michael was equally strong, running .136, 11.27 (11.20 dial), .184, 11.25 (11.21) and a .061, 11.24 (11.21) in his final round race with Paul Sheridan. Congratulations to the Jaggers duo in sweeping top honors in the matching Monster-backed dragsters.

On the Mopar side of the fence, a tip of the hat goes out to Joseph Karnes, who under guarded secrecy (some mentioned that he was just supposed to be running down the street to the grocery store on an errand) cruised through the E-Body Showdown class. Karnes beat Jim Cox in a Cuda vs. Challenger slugfest. Please help us keep this a secret between you and Joseph, we certainly don’t want his kitchen pass revoked for any forthcoming races.

Last but not least, the weather has certainly been a bit of a challenge thus far this season. Our sincerest thanks goes out to all who attended the race `n show on Sunday. We always have the greatest admiration for all of you who have the tenacity to not throw the towel in and stay home. We’ve always been committed to trying anything and everything within our power to make an event happen. The races on June 14th are another case in point how hard everyone works on our staff to pull off a race.
