YOUNG, KIDD, MCDONALD, HULL & WOOD TOP WINNERS AT QUALAFAB STREET MACHINE SHOOTOUT

The 22nd edition of the Qualafab Street Machine Shootout attracted a fine field of race equipment on the final Saturday night of June. Once again the onslaught of eastern Idaho sharp shooters was very impressive. There are likely more street machine racers per capita in the Idaho Falls-area than any other market in the country. Plain `n simple, they have a lot of fast rides.

Congrat’s to Jeff Young who put down an outstanding 8.35 (low e.t. of the meet) to win the Unlimited Street class. His younger brother Kevin nailed a huge 175.88 speed (for top speed of the meet) during qualifying, but fell in the second round of the two-out-of-three match race when a cracked cylinder head ended his title aspirations.

In the Kidd Performance Super Pro class, Mark Kidd joined his daughter Marissa Kidd in the Pepsi Winner’s Circle. It was the second straight win for Mark following his victory at the Fox Hunt one week earlier.

Joe McDonald has been positively red-hot as of late. Not only did he score the Performance Solutions Pro class, but doubled up after collecting the Outlaw Street title one night earlier.

A big tip of the fedora goes out to Glen Phillips for taking his 4-speed `67 Mustang GT to the 12.50 Index title. Phillips put down three remarkable runs of 12.51, 12.50 and 12.51 (along with a 12.55 to qualify eighth) to stop Levi Burlile, who finished at 12.54 with his `62 Ranchero.
