WEDNESDAY: BEAUTIFUL WEATHER GREETS BIG OPENING DAY AT CLASSIC XVI
The NAPA Auto Parts Halloween Classic XVI attracted a huge
throng of racers for the opening day of the five-day $45,000 mega-race.
Presented by Peterson Toyota, Firebird’s season closing event featured the first
day of test `n tune runs, along with the Classic Club Grand Championship
runoffs.
Randy Williamson, Boise, swept the Club Grand Championship runoffs during the
opening day of the NAPA Halloween Classic at Firebird Raceway. Driving `70 Vega,
Williamson ran 10.06 elapsed time at a speed of 125.50 miles per hour to beat
Stan Deming, Nampa. Running for the Rock-It Racing club, Deming finished at
10.89, 123.72 with his `76 Nova. The victory for Williamson, who races for the
Melba Outlaws, won him a brand new car trailer from Quality Trailer Sales after
conquering a field of 150 racers at the start of the day.
Racing will take place on Thursday in three 128-car fields, including Super
Roller, No Box Hi Roller, and No Box Gambler. In addition, the first two rounds
of Top Gun Open Wheel and Full Bodied will get underway at 11:30 am and 3 pm.
