FIREBIRD’S HIATT & ALLEY BOTH REACH BONUS RACE FINALS AT WOODBURN

After a day of test `n tune runs on Thursday afternoon, things kicked into high gear at the Summit E.T. Finals in Woodburn. Friday offered the first official day of time trials, along a special “race within a race” showdown for Box and No Box racers on a beautiful day of racing (as temps climbed into the mid-80’s under partly cloudy skies).

Team Firebird looked impressive throughout the morning and afternoon as two of Idaho’s top guns survived until the final round of both bonus races.

Cody Hiatt scored the big Box Bonus race with the quickest and fastest sportsman entry in competition. In the seventh and final round, Hiatt posted a tire-rattlin’ .018, 8.34 (8.28 dial)-183.18 to defeat a relighting Dale Green, racing for Team Pacific. Green finished at a -.013, 8.85 (8.85 dial)-180.25. For all his efforts, Cody scored a substantial $2,000 payday.

In the No Box Bonus race final, Courtney Alley gave it a whale of an effort, posting a .063, 10.28 (10.29 dial)-127.78 to just get clipped by Corey Ferguson with Team Mission, who finished at .028, 11.19 (11.18 dial)-117.08. Randy
Williamson, with Team Firebird, garnered an impressive semi-final showing with his `70 Vega before being dealt out by eventual winner Ferguson in the 128-car class.

With two late additions to the entry roster on Friday morning (both Mick Alley at the wheel of Julie Hart’s Suburban and Troy Thomas with the Glen Phillips-owned tow truck), Team Firebird now has 54 players on the “Six-Pack Attack” squad. Special thanks goes out to all the teams that made the trip to Woodburn.

Wish us luck as we head into both Saturday and Sunday’s main events. Hopefully we’ll have more positive news to update the website with as the weekend progresses.
