WET WEATHER DELAYS RACE FOR A MONDAY FINISH

Gorgeous weather on Thursday and Friday changed dramatically on both Saturday and Sunday at the Summit E.T. Finals at Woodburn Dragstrip. Nearly an inch of rain fell throughout the morning and early afternoon on Saturday followed by similar results on six separate occasions on Sunday. Although frustrating at times, racers from Team Firebird and a variety of other tracks from throughout the northwest persevered.

Three Firebird racers survived until the later rounds of the Race of Champions on Saturday, including Lisa Thomas, Ed Cutler and Scott Downard, but everyone on the western Idaho based team came up short of a trip to Pomona. An enthusiastic group of racers cheered loud and proud for the “Six-Pack Attack” team headed up by team captains Melanie Higgins and Troy Thomas, along with Firebird staff members Scott, Debbie & John New, Dennis & Karen Law and Joel Eggers.

Sunday dawned wet, but a number of Firebird racers are still in the thick of the hunt when the day came to a close (early evening) after rain halted action for the seventh and final time on day filled with rain, rain and more rain (and a limited number of sun breaks).

Firebird currently ranks third going into Monday’s final day of eliminations (following both Bremerton and Portland.
