Three Junior Dragster competitors made the trip to
Denver for the NHRA Junior Western Conference Finals on June 25-30.
Racing on behalf of Team Firebird, Alex and his brother Chandler Steen,
and Wes Morris competed at the biggest Junior event on the western side
of the U.S.
In impressive fashion, Wes Morris garnered a semi-final (down to the
final three) showing in the 15-year old division. Wes was defeated
by the eventual class winner Nash Keen from Shawnee, Oklahoma, who ran
8.31 on a 8.28 dial-in compared to a 8.08 (8.01 dial) for Morris.
Clayton Steen, the father of Alex and Chandler, sent along a post-event
email saying, “We did have a good time. The racing was good and the cars
ran good for the most part. Wes did excellent on Saturday getting to the
semi-finals in the 15 year old age group. Chandler didn’t get any
trophies but did score several round wins through the week in the 11
year old shootout and the 8.90 index race. Alex made it to the
semi-finals in the 14 year old shootout. All in all, it was a good
trip. Thanks again for the opportunity to race and go represent
Firebird.” Clayton Steen
Congratulations to all three racers who competed at Bandimere Speedway
on behalf of all your friends at Firebird!
The next point’s event for the Junior Dragster class will take place in
conjunction with the Open Test Day on Saturday, July 7th.
