SUNDAY: CALDWELL’S CARL YOUNGSTROM SCORES GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AT FIREBIRD CLASSIC

Local Pro bracket racer Carl Youngstrom earned top honors in the Grand Championship runoff at the NAPA Halloween Classic XIX event at Firebird. After winning the Heavy class title, he defeated the reigning Halloween champion Chris Hall from Brigham City, Utah. Hall redlighted by a mere three thousandths of a second (.003) to end his hopes of repeating his feat of one year ago. Youngstrom, Hall, Dan Lafferty, A.J. Armstrong, John Johnson Jr., Casey Compton and Chandler Steen all earned NHRA Idaho State Championships.

Jake Neibauer from Billings, Mont., swept the Lucas Oil Top Gun Shootout at the NAPA Halloween Classic at Firebird Raceway. Neibauer drove his split-window `63 Corvette to a winning 7.42 seconds at 186.02 to defeat Brett Preuss, Grand Junction, Colo., who finished at 7.32-184.12 with his `02 Dragster.

One day earlier, the Halloween Air Show delivered an overwhelming display of amazing wheelstands. When all was said and done, it was Jamie DenBesten (photo by Brian Losness/Nitrophoto) and Steve Stuart who would win for overall “highest” and “longest” in spectacular fashion. Congratulations to both (and all the other contestants) for one of the wildest nights in track history.
