The 44th edition of the Firebird Award’s Banquet helped bring the 2011 Season to a close at The Riverside Hotel ballroom in Boise. A near capacity turnout attended the festive night as just over 80 different drivers and an assortment of other recipients took home a variety of awards, along with a share of the $15,000 in cash and prizes.

Super Pro track champion Cody Hiatt was the top vote recipient for the coveted Racer of the Year award. Lisa Thomas secured the largest number of votes to win Top Lady plaque following a third place overall finish in Pro.

Jackie Alley was acknowledged during the evening for her extraordinary season, winning the 2011 NHRA Super Stock Lucas Oil national championship. She received a standing ovation and a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the New family and Firebird staff.

The 26th presentation of the prestigious Racemaster honor went to long-time Firebird racer Bill Muchow. Having first started racing at Firebird in 1968, Muchow has been a part of the drag racing scene in western Idaho for over fifty years, was the founder of the Melba Outlaws club and has participated in every Friday night Club Challenge event since its inception.

The evening also included the presentation of the 2011 Summit E.T. Finals track team championship, which earned 58 Team Firebird racers an embroidered jacket as part of the reward for earning top honors at the Team Finals.

For those curious who won the Team Slogan contest for next year’s Summit E.T. Finals, it was none other than Randy Williamson (who was awarded an embroidered Firebird/ARP jacket). Randy came up with the creative phrase: “DominEIGHT”, and this will be the motto as the Firebird team pursues a second-straight and eighth overall crown in Seattle on August 31, September 1-2, 2012.

Each of the 2011 Gold Cup winning vehicles (Hiatt, Williamson, Meimann, Wood, Johnson and Harris) were placed on display throughout the Riverside venue, further showcasing the accomplishments of this year’s track champions.

Thanks to all the sponsoring companies who have contributed to each individual class and year-end championships. They include: Boise Muffler, Kidd Performance & Dyno, Performance Solutions, United Oil, Woody’s Outdoor Power, Meadow Gold, United Dairymen, Carl’s Cycle Sales, Moffitt & Bratton, Wayne’s Transmissions, Lyle Pearson Acura, Capitol City Transmission, Fairly Reliable Bob’s, Pecht Family Farms, K & N Filters, and an assortment of other supporting entities.

We’d also like to convey our appreciation to an assortment of photographers who shot pictures throughout this season at Firebird. We featured many of best images from the 2011 Season on the giant big screen throughout the evening and say thanks to: Blair Alderton, Gary & Jessica Himes, Brian Losness, David Fudge, Rich Carlson, Paul Grant, Steven Bunker, Greg Johnson, Rick Cate, Dennis Law, Jeffrey Conger, Chris Graves, Tera Wendland, Alex Charlton and Firebird staff members. It really added a nice touch to our awards program.
