Starting in 1982, Chuck Beal (near side) won four major alcohol Funny Car titles at Firebird over the course of the next five years. Running the Nightfire Nationals, Beal duked it out in this photo with Richard Smith, who made the long distance trek from his home in Lenexa, Kansas. During one of these years, Beal downed a field that included a whopping 22 entries competing in an open 16 car field.
