It's quite fun getting a chance to look back at not only a bunch of racing shots from yesteryear, but also a variety of other pictures we showcase every week in Blast from the Past. This image comes from the 1976 Bracketeer Nationals, staged over Memorial Weekend. In the foreground is Dave Yount, who we knicknamed the "Fremont Flash", for his years of racing out of both his home bases in Fremont, California and Arkansas. Along side Yount is the Johnston & Robbins flip-topped Funny Car that competed in the Bracketeers in the mid-70's. For both these racers, the dragster and funny car were (if memory serves) two of the first of their type to compete in bracket competition at Firebird (amongst a sea of door cars during those early years).
