It's quite fun getting a chance to look back at
not only a bunch of racing shots from yesteryear, but also a variety of
other pictures we showcase every week in Blast from the Past. This image
comes from the 1976 Bracketeer Nationals, staged over Memorial Weekend. In
the foreground is Dave Yount, who we knicknamed the "Fremont
Flash", for his years of racing out of both his home bases in Fremont,
California and Arkansas. Along side Yount is the Johnston & Robbins
flip-topped Funny Car that competed in the Bracketeers in the mid-70's. For
both these racers, the dragster and funny car were (if memory serves) two of
the first of their type to compete in bracket competition at Firebird
(amongst a sea of door cars during those early years).
