Not many people travel further than these guys do to attend a Firebird event. Annually David Waight and his cast of party animals (he and his buddies pictued) make the journey from Australia to Firebird, typically making stops at everything from Goodguys events to the famed L.A. Roadster Swap Meet in Pomona. For those who don't know, David is Firebird's "Australian Ambassador". Not only does he enthusiastically promote Firebird throughout his travels, but he always spends time spreading the goodwill of his country throughout the Firebird pit area whenever he comes to Firebird. He's been to a variety of our events over the years. From the Oldies Drags to the Halloween Classic to the Spring Swap Meet, he just plain loves anything that's old and fast. Plus he really digs anything vintage, especially Model A's. He builds hot rods for a living, spending a good part of our winter (their summer) building cars, so he can travel to the states during their winter months. He's already making plans for 2008. From the sounds of things, he may just be attending his first Pepsi Nightfire next August. He is totally intrigued by the new NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series and may need to adjust his schedule to take in Firebird's granddaddy weekend. Wouldn't it be cool if he and twelve of his best buddies from Down Under make it to Nightfire #37...now that would be a party to remember!
