Here's a vintage shot of the
Firebird pit area circa 1971. As
you can see from this nostalgic
shot out of the John Corn's
photo album, the pits are 100%
dirt and sand. Some of you might
remember that the pit gate (for
access into the pit area) for
the first two decades was right
down by the Pennzoil sign
hanging in the foreground on a
fence line. When you blow this
picture up, it's even more
interesting when you see there's
not a car in sight newer than
`71...go figure!!!! In addition,
there's not a single trailer in
the pits, only tow bars. Thanks

giving us an opportunity to
share photos from his early
collection from time-to-time.
