This photo really gives you a perspective of what Firebird first looked like. Trace back nearly four and a half decades and you have a short-wheel based dragster racing against an altered roadster. Taken from the mid-track grandstands (by Paul Martin), this old black `n white shot was taken not long after the track was first paved in 1968 (Firebird's inaugural season). If you notice, the staging lanes (in front of the fence) are still gravel and the tower side of the track looks like more of a parking lot than an area for spectating.
