Having raced at Firebird for many,
many years, the dragster in the far lane
is wheeled by Tom Bailey from Soda
Springs. In this Super Pro picture from
1990, he is getting ready for his
burnout alongside of Dan Dowdy's bright
yellow dragster that won a number of
accolades on the ISCA show circuit. It's
always fun looking back at some of the
old photos. In particular, these two
dragster look so different from today's
design and look of the modern
rear-engined dragster. Furthermore,
check out the old pavement that was in
place between the burnout box and
starting line for the track's first two
decades before concrete was installed
mid-way through the 90's. One other
thing that jumps out quickly is the fact
there was no spray hose on the starting
line for the burnout box. Water was
bucketed out of the 55 gallon red drum
and swept across the water box before
each pair. Now, those were the days...
