Californian Kirk Kuhns was one of the first four racers to bring a Blown Doorslammer to Firebird way back in the late-80’s. This was his bright red Ford Thunderbird appropriately named the “Thunder Chicken”. Kirk has raced quite a variety of cars over the years including everything from a front-engined Top Fuel car to an Alcohol Funny Car. Kuhns is credited with the Firebird’s first 6-second run by a supercharged Pro Modified. In the past couple of season he has helped manage the crew chief duties for the Mike Maggio Pro Modified team, which won the 2011 PSCA Pro Street point’s series and qualified very well at the 40th Pepsi Nightfire Nationals (running a best of 6.09).
