Anybody that's been around any length of time most definitely recognizes the name Big Boy, especially anyone that spent time in the Golden state. Started in 1936, Big Boy restaurants was a real institution in and around southern California. Known for it's adorable, chubby boy in red and white checkered overalls holding a double-decker cheeseburger, this classic statute (picture above) represents the true personality behind the popular food chain. Leading up to the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield in October 2010, the trio of Bill and John New, along with Mike Shaw paid a visit to the famed restaurant (don't tell anyone, but we think they were trying to figure out the secret ingredients in the Big Boy special sauce to add onto the Firebird menu). If you've never had an opportunity to eat at a Big Boy's, you owe it to yourself to give `em a try the next time your travels take you to California.
