One of the most talked about cars in this year’s Roadster Show had to be the “High Heaven” AA/Fuel Altered debuted by Boise’s Hughie Callen. Restored in all its glory (and paintwork by Gordon Boven at Custom Works), the original “awful-awful” roadster is expected to return to the quarter-mile this season. Callen did a fantastic job returning the nitro-burner to its original appearance. Both Les and Cal Jackson, aka-the Jackson Bros., flew over to see the Bantam Roadster during the Roadster Show weekend. This AA/FA first hit the drag race scene in 1971. To the credit of Hughie, he was awarded one of the event’s top prizes - “The Wild One” award, along with Outstanding Display, Outstanding Comp, Outstanding Comp-Engine and his over class trophy. On behalf of everyone in the Firebird drag racing community – thanks to the Callen family for resurrecting a real slice of history!
