The “Green Elephant”

The “Green Elephant” Funny Cars were always quite popular with the fans of both the Ignitor and Nightfire. From the Steve Rogers photo library comes this mid-70’s dandy of the Jim Green Vega. The “Green Elephant” was the winner of the second annual Nightfire 500 event back in 1973 with Frank Hall at the wheel. Then in 1977, Rob Bruins piloted one of Green’s “Elephant” rides to the Ignitor Funny Car crown. Never one to fear superstition (green paint!), Jim Green continued racing into the late 70’s before venturing off into the world of street rods. Green later appeared with his flip-top bodied `34 Ford Phaeton super rod in the Boise Roadster Show, a car he still owns to this day.
