We share some pretty rare and interesting photos from time-to-time on our Blast from the Past feature. This early photograph (likely taken by an instamatic, remember those?) has never seen the light of day until now. This is spring-time 1968 shortly after the first heavy equipment was brought into the facility to start carving out the entrance road, dragstrip, pit area and staging lanes. In the foreground is the shell of the Control Tower, the first structure erected at the track, which originally stood on four corner 8” x 8” pillars. To actually get into the original tower in `68 and `69, you had to physically climb a ladder to get into the back entrance of structure. This is a true perspective of where it all began.
