Looking back to the late 70’s, this photograph provided by Steve Rogers features Don “the Snake” Prudhomme, far lane, and John “Brute” Force competing at a NHRA World Championship Series event (likely 1978). This was during an era when Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock were still contested at the divisional level. During his career, Prudhomme won four straight NHRA national championships (1975-78) and an amazing 49 career NHRA event titles. He also won two Ignitor Funny Car races (1972 and 1978) and a Nightfire crown (1987). For Force, he is hands down the most successful and recognizable professional in the history of NHRA Drag Racing. Starting way back in 1974, Force has scored 15 NHRA national titles. He is also Nightfire champion, winning three times (1988, 1990 and 1991).
