Mike Coltrin has been a part of the Firebird racing scene for many, many years. The second generation competitor follows in the footsteps of his father Spike who first started racing at Firebird back in the early 70’s. Spike is a past recipient of the prestigious Racemaster award, one of the track’s highest honors presented each year at the season closing Banquet. Coltrin is a former Division 6 champion who races in both Super Gas and Firebird’s Super Pro Gold Cup program. Having sat out the past couple of seasons, we understand that Coltrin may be returning to the pavement wars in 2014 with a number of new updates to his Corvette roadster. In addition, we want to once again pay special thanks to both Mike and Spike for helping install all the doors in the Firebird Race Control Tower back in 2010 (and there’s a bunch of them!). They still open and close perfect thanks to their fine tuning. And if you ever need with a project that involves doors (and a lot of other construction type work) – this father `n son pair are as good as they get. This photo, above, is just over a decade old, taken at the 2003 Ignitor-Lucas Oil Drag Race Series event by noted photographer Bryan Ellis. We look forward to the return of Team Coltrin this season!
