Ever wonder what a rocket engine looked like that
powered the likes of the Chicago Patrol, "Fearless Fred" Goeske and
several other drivers who had the courage to drive one of these amazing cars?
...well here it is. Powered by the very toxic fuel known as hydrogen
peroxide, these machines were fueled by a very explosive chemical
that was capable of burning a hole right through your hand (or even the
ground itself). Let's just say, it was really dangerous stuff. It helped
propel cars into the 4-second zone at speeds over 300 miles per hour, during
an era that saw no piston powered car even close to the 5's and well under 250
mph! No doubt about it, these dudes were just plain frightening to watch. They
made one and one appearance at Firebird (during a late 70's Nightfire),
eventually disappearing into drag racing history. Photo by Dick
