Washington's Herm Peterson and Sam Fitz (past
Division 6 Hall of Famer's) competed at an early Fueler meet at Firebird with
this rear-engined Top Fuel Dragster. Likely to be around 1972 (maybe `71) - if
you look closely in the background you'll see the Ray Montgomery campaigned
"Gypsy" Mopar in the staging lanes. The car is still alive and well
in the collection of Mopars Unlimited club enthusiast, collector and
racer David Tweedy, Eagle. This very car was on display at Classic XI in
a special Halloween-themed pit space adjoining the Tweedy family
racing compound. Tweedy will no doubt get a kick out of this rare
photograph featuring a shot of his car awaiting its turn to go racing just
over three decades ago. It's pretty cool seeing a handful of the original
Idaho dragstrip warriors preserved for future generations to see and enjoy.
