Check out this mid-80's photo of Firebird's upper pit area. Quite different than how it appears today, the original hill general parking lot was completely reshaped to create an upper pit area for pro teams at the major events and a show pit area at other races. As you can obviously see, the entire pit area was mostly sand and gravel, including the entire road from the front gates to the lower pit area...makes you really appreciate what is in place today. Look closely in the background (from this Nightfire event) and you'll see Jack Holsey, Jam-Air Special, Desert Rat, Lynn Redeman, and at the top end of the image - none other than John Force. My oh my, it sure has changed.
