The Bracketeer Nationals as they were originally called began in 1976. The Bracketeer Ford vs. Chevy final was actually staged on Monday (without a timing system, since a huge electrical storm the night before took it out). Dale Harsin (left) tried chasing down Harley Noe in the Bracketeer final...look close again at the top-end, two staff members stood on the left side (and right, too) to determine winner by eyeball after a handicapped start...sans any e.t.'s or dial-ins, agreed upon by both drivers that morning. Harley Noe earned that inaugural title, split the purse, but earned the title and rights to be the first Bracketeer champion.
