In a terrific first round joust, Brett
Harris just clipped Scott Mason in an all Utah dash. Harris nailed low
e.t. of the meet at 5.90-251.88 against a tough 5.99-241.54, the first
5-second performance by Mason at Firebird. |

After winning the previous two years in
Sportsman Bike, Mike Scott tried to three-peat, but lost in the semi's
to Danny Patridge (who hit a .001 and ran dead-on, 8.780 on a 8.78!!!) |

Debuting his brand spankin' new dragster,
reigning Division 6 champ Mike Henderson, fell in the opening round to
Howard Johnson in Super Comp. |

Local racer Terry Anderson put his `67
Nova into the #22 position in Super Stock (SS/H) with a 10.20, -.955
under his index. |

Jack "the Sherrif" Harris lifted
the supercharger off the "Paso Posse" Fueler in the lights,
taking a very close 5.93-245.70 to a 5.99-235.84 by Mike McLennan (far
side). McLennan would return based on quickest run of round one, when
John Rodeck and company pulled their Fueler off the ladder. The move
would help McLennan and Mike Fuller go onto win the event title. |

Wayne Ryder, Baker City, Ore., had his
"Cameo Express" flying at the Ignitor, posting a best of
7.25-186.64 before falling in the second round to Frank Tamez. |

Qualifying 7th at 9.50 (-1.25 under his GT/AA
index) in Super Stock, Byron Setters from Red Deer, Alberta, survived
until round three, losing to eventual winner Steve Wann. |
