IGNITOR: DAY THREE
Saturday
was another spectacular day, both weather-wise and the racing, too. My goodness,
who wouldve ever thought a AA/Fuel Dragster would run 5.69 at Firebird. Yes
5.69 was recorded by the Sheriff Jack Harris during the opening race
with Howard Haight. The old track record was 5.83 (by Brad Thompson) and Harris
pounded out a jaw dropper that had everyone standing on their feet in
appreciation.
Matt Moreira was very quick on Saturday, too. Driving the Villain Racing `23 T
Roadster, Moreira ran 6.17 at 227.21 miles per hour. He stopped Dale Harsin with
the Outlaw `57 Chevy Funny Car, which ran 7.40.
The NHRA national records took a pounding as well, with 31 new standards
established over the two-day timeframe. Several were outstanding, but perhaps
the biggest of the day belonged to Canadian Rob Harrison who astounded everyone
with a 7.86 followed by a 7.84 to blitz the 8.00 J/Altered record. No question,
Igor and company will be plenty tough to stop on Sunday.
Gates open at 8 am on Sunday followed by eliminations at 9 am. First round of
the Pros will take place at 1 pm. Adult admission is $22, kids 6-12 are $5,
and toddlers 5 & under are free.
Thanks to Ashley Furniture, Sunday is Military Appreciation Day, which grants
free admission to any active card holding person in the armed forces to come
enjoy the final day of action.
