2008 American Classifieds Fall Swap Meet The 4th Annual American Classifieds Fall Swap Meet attracted a smashing turnout. In fact, the event enjoyed the largest single vendor/attendance gain of any previous Swap Meet and that includes tracing back in time on all the Spring & Fall Meets. This year's mixture of vendors was outstanding, with many buyers commented in a postive fashion just how good this year's late-September bash ended up. For the first time, the Swap Meet also included a dramatic finish to the Boise Muffler/Spangler Bros. Auto Body Gold Cup Series. Two classes went right down to the wire. In the Meadow Gold Jr. Lightning class, both Rayce Kidd and Camille Shaffer tied at day's end. This forced a one race runoff that saw Kidd pick up his first Firebird track championship with a perfect run. The United Oil Sportsman division was another dandy. Liana Compton, who was the leader the majority of the year, found herself in a precarious spot after losing in round one. Jerome's Joe Witherspoon took advantage of the situation and put together just enough round points to win his maiden track championships after racing at Firebird off `n on for a couple of decades. We also say congratulations to the day's two overall winners. Racing in the NHRA Division 6 King of the Track runoff, Troy McDonald first defeated Mark Kidd (by just .001 of a second), followed by a victory over Rich Pedraza to win his first Wally trophy. Tim Shaw also enjoyed a tremendous day winning the King Kong 100 MPH Runoff, taking home the biggest trophy of the year. As you can see in the photo below, the trophy is almost the same height as Tim's wife Rose. For those making plans for 2009, the 15th Annual Spring Warm Up & Swap Meet has already been locked in for Saturday, April 11, 2009. Mark it down on your calendars today.
