TWENTY ELIMINATORS CONTESTED IN ONE BIG DAY OFRACING AT SEASON OPENER

The Stinker Stores Season Opener crowned twenty different champions at Firebird. Due to the impending cold weather forecasters were predicting for Sunday, officials elected to run both Saturday and Sunday eliminations all in one. The marathon day included eleven hours of racing for a purse of nearly $7,000. The two-races helped jump start the Boise Muffler/Spangler Bros. Auto Body Gold Cup Series on a day filled with cool temperatures and an occasional snow flurry or two.

The day was fast paced and the race surface was in superb condition. Although a pretty stout headwind prevailed over most of the day, the consistency lane-to-lane couldn't have been better as the cool weather lowered the corrected altitude to well below sea level (which is 2,700' at Firebird). For the day, temperatures started in the 30's and ended up in the low 50's by late afternoon under partly cloudy to very cloudy conditions.

Stinker Opener Champions included: Mark Kidd, Twin Falls, and Scott Lemen, Fruitland, in the Super Pro division. In Pro, reigning track champ Larry Hale, Buhl won the first event, while Randy Williamson, Boise, secured the second event. Sixteen other champions are listed below.

All racing for the two day event was concluded just before showers hit the raceway and racing will not take place at Firebird on Sunday.

On behalf of the New Crew and our staff - special thanks to everyone who had the fortitude to commit to the racing weekend and participate at our first "Drive for Five" Team Firebird point's race. Your endorsement of our racing program regardless of the pre-race weather forecasts means more than you can imagine, especially after busting tail all winter long on the extensive list of improvements we've made to the facility. Lookin' forward to see all of you again this weekend and many others traveling to Firebird for the Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Race Series.
