SWAP
MEET PACKS RACEWAY
Hands down, the 14th
edition of the Spring Warm Up & Swap Meet presented by American
Classifieds was one of, if not the best yet. The weather was
post-card perfect. The vendor and racer counts were at all time
highs. Attendance was
totally over the top. Positively, it was an incredible event and as
many mentioned throughout the day, “What a great way to kick of
the Season!”
The Swap Meet itself attracted more vendors than any of the previous
thirteen years occupying nearly half the entire central pit area,
along with the upper pits, which was packed to the max. It seemed
like there was more old iron, from barn fresh cars to parts, than
ever before. Vendors were on hand from as far away as Minnesota and
the sales, noted by many sellers throughout the day, were well above
past years.
The full day of testing offered unlimited passes for just over seven
hours. A record turnout of better than 260 racers took in the last
test day before the Stinker Stores Season Opener on April 19th and
20th. The air was exceptional, especially in the morning when the
corrected altitude was hovering 200-400 feet below sea level
depending on who’s weather stations you referenced. Amazingly
enough, the day turned out just simply gorgeous as temperatures
topped out at 69 with a very subtle breeze during the afternoon.
Anticipation is riding at a very high pitch as everyone is gearing
up the start of Team Firebird’s “Drive for Five” this coming
weekend. It marks the start of the 2008 Boise Muffler & Spangler
Bros. Auto Body Gold Cup Series. Classes offered include Super Pro,
Pro, Sportsman, Snow/Bike, Nostalgia, Outlaw Street, Street Truck,
Street Bike, Junior Thunder and Lightning. Gates open daily at 9 am.
First round of racing will get underway at 2 pm. Best of all, the
weekend features two separate days of racing, all for one entrance
fee.
