GENE BAXTER CAPTURES COVETED GOLDMARK AT 37TH ROADSTER SHOW

One of the strongest crowds in recent memory attended the 37th edition of the Boise Roadster Show, which concluded last weekend at Expo Idaho.

Presented by Les Schwab, the four-day G.M. Performance ISCA Championship event attracted an outstanding field of exhibitors from nine states.

Gene Baxter from Newberg, Oregon, scored the Goldmark award, in addition to the Best Rod title. Baxter spent the better part of 11 years building his remarkable `34 Chevy coupe. The flamed red hot rod features some truly amazing engineering and flawless craftsmanship.

Don Owen and Reid Dahlin, both of Boise, were co-selected for the 28th Master-Builder award. The duo displayed their `40 Willys coupe, which had been completely reconstructed over the past eight years.

Rich Greiner from Yakima, Wash., was selected for the eleventh Essence of Cool award. Dennis McClendon, Mesa, Ariz., won the “Trendsetter” award. Ken Rhodes, Eagle, took home the plaque for “The Wild One” title with his `50 Ford Woodie. Presented on behalf of Firebird Raceway, Gabe Rodriguez Jr., Harahan, Louisiana, was chosen for the Fire Rod award. The `61 Chevrolet Impala of Orlan Stearns, Twin Falls, was picked for the ninth annual Tompkins award. Earning the third Mighty Fine award was the `64 Falcon convertible of Tim Teeter, Boise.  Bobby Westbrook, Smith River, Calif., won the People’s Choice award, sweeping the highest vote count from the fans that attended this year’s Roadster Show.

Other top award winners included: Best Restored winner—Don Lopez, Eagle, for Best Restored, Tim Wallace, Meridian, nailed Best Comp Car, Kirk Johnson, Sacramento, Calif., collected Best Truck honors, Kyle Brumfield, Boise, swept Best Bike honors, and Best overall club display went to the No Limit Classics four-car display.
